Boundless Cycling

Those searching for "oases of tranquility" in the fluvial land-scape along both sides of the Rhine, yet would enjoy some physical activity in the process, are well-advised to tour by bicycle. A variety of posted cycling routes, some of which cross the border into the neighbouring Alsace, form the backbone of a bicycle-path system popular among cyclists as one of the region's highlights.

With a total distance of 76 kilometres, the "Rheinauen" cycling route between Karlsruhe and Iffezheim is a pleasurable tour. The peaceful arms along the course of the old Rhine and artificial lakes from old quarries are inviting spots to rest and enjoy the scenery.

The "Haguenau – Bühl – Baden-Baden" bicycle path offers a blend of urban flair, idyllic rural village life and scenic landscapes. There are many charming spots to stop and refresh oneself along this 56-kilometre-long route paved for the most part with asphalt.

For cyclists with ambition, there are two long-distance cycling route alternatives: the "Ortenauradwanderweg" (from Offenburg to Ettlingen) and the "Vélo-Route" (from Mainz to Basel).

Ferry connections are available to enable "commuting" between the neighbouring regions of Baden and Alsace while touring by bike:
