Kaltenbronn Highlands

One of the last intact highland moor regions in Central Europe stretches across "Kaltenbronn". This unique, unspoiled landscape with its highland and woodland moors is a habitat for specialists. Few living things can make their way in this cool environment low in nutrients.

Though sparse in terms of species diversity, the one-of-their kind flora and fauna and well-developed network of hiking routes and planked paths across the Hohloh and Wildsee Moors make Baden-Württemberg's oldest nature preserve a popular destination for outings. Animal species of increasing rarity, the capercaillie for example, have found a home here.

Visitors can get used to the 1000-metre altitude on the Hohloh Tower and enjoy a breathtaking view of the Murgtal Valley, across the heights of the Black Forest and, when conditions permit, even the Vosges Mountains in Alsace.

In the winter, numerous circular cross-country and long-distance ski routes, including two lifts, transform Kaltenbronn into a major area for winter sports.

Im Natur-Infozentrum Kaltenbronn erwartet sie eine interaktive Ausstellung zum Anfassen und Staunen für Groß und Klein. The Forestry Office offers special guided tours across the Kaltenbronn highland moor region for groups and for children.
